Description: Tablets of white or white with a yellowish-greenish tint, flat-cylindrical shape, with a score and a bevel.
Composition: 1 tablet contains metronidazole 250 mg and excipients: potato starch, microcrystalline cellulose, lactose.
Pharmacological action: The spectrum of action includes protozoa: Trichomonas vaginalis, Entamoeba histolytica, Lamblia Leishmania; anaerobic gram-negative microorganisms: Bacteroides, including the Bacteroides fragilis group; fusobacteria: Prevotella; anaerobic gram-positive rods: Clostridium, sensitive strains of Eubacterium; anaerobic gram-positive cocci: Peptococcus spp., Peptostreptococcus spp. Trichomonacidal action (death of approximately 99% of the above protozoa) is observed at a drug concentration of 2.5 μg/ml for 24 hours. For anaerobic microorganisms, the minimum bacteriostatic concentration, causing 90% of their death, is 8 μg / ml. Active against Mobiluncus, Micoplasma hominis, the protozoa Balantidium coli. Facultative anaerobes and obligate aerobes are resistant to metronidazole, but in the presence of mixed flora (aerobes and anaerobes) metronidazole acts synergistically with antibiotics effective against common aerobes. Inactive against Actinomyces species, Candida albicans.
Application: For all dogs and cats. Treatment of severe life-threatening infections in animals caused by microorganisms sensitive to metronidazole: sepsis, peritonitis, abdominal and liver abscesses, pelvic organ diseases (including postpartum infections), lower respiratory tract infections (destructive pneumonia, lung abscess), CNS infections (meningitis, brain abscess) and other infections (septicemia, gas gangrene, osteomyelitis). The drug is also used to treat acute intestinal amebiasis, amoebic liver abscess and for the prevention of postoperative complications caused by anaerobic bacteria.
Dosage: Dogs and cats are prescribed at a dose of 12–25 mg/kg – 2 times a day for 5–7 days.
Contraindications: The drug is not used in case of hypersensitivity to metronidazole, in the first third of pregnancy
